The foundation of the Saxum Institute is God, of course, who calls himself “the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6). God is the principle—the beginning—of all things. God, who can neither deceive nor be deceived, makes himself present in our lives wherever the truth is present. The truth is what gives order and provides stability in the world. But, of course, not all men know the truth or choose to see it. Pontius Pilate asked himself, “Quid est veritas?”—What is truth? All the while, he was staring at Truth himself in the face.
Truth doesn’t seek merely to exist; it seeks to find its way into your very soul. This is why you are a crucial element to the heart of Saxum. As some have said, other religions can be described as man’s search for God, but Christianity alone can be called God’s search for man. As Our Lord Himself says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me” (Apocalypse 3:20). That’s right—you’re a pretty big deal in this Saxum project.
The truth can be uncomfortable—it is uncompromising and can be very demanding. Yet, truth is that great story-teller telling us a tale of two great friends: Freedom and the Cross of Truth. When you embrace the Truth; when you give up every other way and embrace the only Way, then it is that freedom shall reign. “Veritas vos liberabit”—the truth will set you free (John 8:32), “and if the Son sets you free, truly free shall you be” (John 8:36). It is the heart of Saxum’s mission to bring the truth of Christ to you, that you might experience “the glorious freedom of the children of God” (Romans 8:21).
